VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

RECEPTIONIST
Will serve as the first contact visitors have with the Museum. Welcome visitors and group tours. Provide an orientation to the facility. Introduce the video. Furnish maps, tourist information.

EDUCATION
Opportunities are available for a variety of positions. Educational volunteers interact with the public. They also can assist with group education programs, development of lesson plans and help with various special events at the museum.

LIBRARY and LEARNING CENTER
Stationed at the reference desk, the volunteers will assist patrons and students using the library for historical research and genealogical research. Taking and transcribing oral histories is another important function.

MUSEUM RESOURCE PERSON
Serve as a resource person stationed in the exhibit galleries of the museum. Answer questions and provide interactive opportunities to visitors. Familiarity with the entire collection is key.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
Work in the business office, computer input, filing, answering telephones and assisting in general office duties.

SPEAKER'S BUREAU
Volunteers present scheduled programs about the museum and local history to groups and organizations. Volunteers will be trained for researching and developing these programs in a manner befitting each volunteer's comfort level.

MUSEUM ACCESSIONING AND SUPPORT
Museum support would include cataloging artifacts, photos and archival pieces and maintaining an inventory. PAST PERFECT is a user-friendly computer museum software program that is currently in use. Past Perfect can also be used to maintain membership and contribution lists.

SPECIAL PROJECTS
Special events need volunteers! So does historical research, writing and publishing. The research project at the St. Louis Public Library of seeking out patents awarded to Belleville and Belleville area residents is ongoing.

BUILDING MAINTENANCE
Heavy duty tasks such as, cleaning floors and windows, painting and building repairs. Need a good-natured attitude!!
Exhibit development/building could also be included with this volunteer opportunity.

HOUSEKEEPING
Perform a variety of light duties such as dusting, sweeping and plant care to help keep the museum looking tidy and cared for.
